Journey of Faith

Baptism

picture of baptismOur priest meets with parents of babies, infants and children who are seeking baptism. Often the experience of the birth of a child can put parents in touch with their desire to share their faith with their children and make them part of the church community.

When parents come with older children a different sort of preparation is needed.  In this case the preparation may be carried out by our lay catechists.

First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion

The sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion are normally open to children who will be eight years old in the current school year. There are preparation meetings for parents and for children which take place each year.

There is a large team of lay catechists who lead the preparation along with our priest.

Confirmation

The sacrament of Confirmation is available for our teenagers every couple of years.  Several months of preparation and prayer take place. In recent years we have combined our preparation and celebration of the sacrament with St. Alban’s.

Journey of Faith for Adults

Faith JourneyThe journey faith for adults is often known as the ‘Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults’ (RCIA) or simply ‘Enquiry Group’ .  Don’t be put off by these titles.  We run groups each year and they are made up of adults form all backgrounds; people with no Christian backgrounds through to catholics who may have felt distant from our church community.

As the time moves on members of the group make decisions about their faith journey, it is perfectly normal for some members to take it no further and for others to become full members of the Catholic community.
